I am so thrilled to share my experience and opinions on this cool apple. I recommend to all the bakers out there and those who love to try new sweet things to go pick up the new cosmic crisp apples and try it out for yourself. This apple is super sweet and would be the perfect apple to a sugar-reduced pie since the apple is so naturally sweet. I am so glad I got to try this apple because this might be my new go-to apple. The cosmic crisps paired so well with my apple pie filling recipe. When I took my first bite I was blown away by how sweet and crisp the flavor was. When I cut a slice out of the pie the first thing I noticed was how pretty the apple filling was inside. The large, juicy and red apple has a perfectly balanced flavor and firm texture, making it ideal for snacking, cooking, baking, and entertaining. You must act fast so you don’t end up with cosmic regret. Classically bred and grown in Washington State, the Cosmic Crisp is a cross of the Enterprise and Honeycrisp varieties. You know what that means Those who order first get the cosmic best. Compare that to the popular Gala apple that makes up a whopping 21. Once the pie was done and I let it cool for a few hours I was finally able to taste-test the pie. Here’s a little FOMO fact about the Cosmic Crisp apple: The Cosmic Crisp apple will only make up 3 of the total apple crop this year. This was the most exciting part for me getting to bake the apples into the pie to see how they tasted. I overall was impressed by the size, texture, and taste of this new apple. Most apples I have used I would need somewhere between 4-6 apples. Since these apples are large I only needed about 3 apples which makes cutting and peeling faster. I tend to go for the sweet apples such as honey crisps so having another sweet apple that is related to the Honeycrisp is amazing for anyone who enjoys using apples in their baking. The apple itself is sweet, juicy, and the perfect crisp you look for in an apple. As I was slicing and peeling the cosmic crisp I was thinking about all the different types of baked goods these apples would be perfect for. The look of the apple is exactly how you would imagine the perfect big red apple.

Today I will be sharing with you my thoughts on the cosmic apple in a cosmic apple pie. As soon after I read about how cool these apples are I knew for sure I wanted to taste test them in one of my apple pies. For those who are not familiar with the new apple, it is a hybrid between Honeycrisp and Enterprise apples. I then became very interested to learn more about this apple and to see what exactly makes a cosmic crisp. I remember learning about this apple from a link my mom shared with me on Facebook. As an Apple fan you may have guessed that I was super excited to learn about the new cosmic crisp apple. I have tried almost every apple and even grow my own apples for my pies. Not only are apple pies my favorite type of pie, but apples are also my favorite fruit. It is also my most requested pie from those who purchase from me. Recommended. If you know me or have been following me on my baking journey you would know that apple pies are my favorite type of pie. Overall: This is really good, what I’d hoped a cider made from this Cosmic Crisp variety could be. Mouthfeel: Crisp, briskly tart, with a clean and sweet finish that avoids being cloying. Semi-sweet bordering on sweet, with a residual apple flesh flavor. Crisp, with a snap of apple flavor, and hints of white wine-chardonnay or sauvignon blanc. Taste: Sweet and tart, the latter hitting the back and sides of the palate with a brisk acidity. Smell: Sweet apple juice, like a fresh ripe apple, clean, a touch of cotton candy. Semi-petillant with nice leisurely bubbles. It’s 8% alcohol by volume (earning its “imperial” moniker) and is available in 12-ounce cans and on draft.Īppearance: Pale golden yellow, brilliantly clear. Made with a resplendent blend of fresh-pressed Cosmic Crisp® and Northwest apples, this cider shines like starlight while bright, fruit-forward aromatics collide with a high-acid profile for a truly heavenly experience. We’ve finally found a way to package the stars! With a bubbly visual profile that glistens and gleams like starlight and an 8% ABV, Cosmic Crisp® is sure to take you on an interstellar cider experience. I’ve been looking forward to such a cider since first trying Cosmic Crisp apples a year and a half ago, and I have to say, this one does not disappoint.

This Cosmic Crisp cider from 2 Towns is the first to be produced on a large scale from the new variety. It’s a cross between Enterprise and Honeycrisp varieties, and is sweet, juicy, crisp and resists browning from oxidation. Cosmic Crisp is a new apple variety released in 2019, following two decades of development by Washington State University. 2 Towns Ciderhouse of Corvallis recently sent me samples of its latest year-round cider, and its first imperial cider to be released in cans, Cosmic Crisp®.
